Meet Althea



She received a B.A. in Economics from Northeastern University and her Juris Doctor from Western New England University. She has thirty (30) years of diverse legal experience beginning in 1988 when she was admitted to the New York bar. The majority of her experience has been extensively in civil litigation where she handled cases from inception to trial. She has litigated cases in federal and state courts in which she represented clients in personal injury, property damage, discrimination and section 1983 cases. Within the last nineteen (19) years, the majority of her legal practice has been in family law, which includes divorce, equitable distribution, separation agreement, custody, visitation, domestic violence, juvenile delinquency and child support. 



Throughout the majority of her adult life,  she has been committed to public service by serving on boards and being active in organizations that implemented and developed programs and workshops that empowered children and adults to be leaders in their communities. She has mentored children as well as developed workshops that provided foster care children, who are aging out to receive the life learning skills they need in order to become independent. It is this strong desire to serve her community is one of the many reasons she wishes to serve as a judge.

  •  Board Member of the Community Health Services of Union County (Service local residents with diabetes who do not have insurance.)
  •  Mentor young women at local middle  school.
  •  Union County School Volunteer.
  •  Volunteer Attorney with Council for Children's Rights.

Athea Richardson-Tucker thirty (30) years of legal experience has provided her with the skills and ability to not only be fair and
impartial, but also to be firm, direct and compassionate with all parties. She is also committed to being respectful with a tempered disposition to all litigants, jurors, witnesses and attorneys who come to the Union County District Court. She is prepared, decisive, patient and takes a common-sense approach to the administration of justice.
